Cataract, Lens & Non-Laser Refractive Surgery
Thanks to the revolutionary technology behind Z-LASIK, most people with long and short sightedness, and even astigmatism, are now suitable candidates for laser eye surgery. However, there are some people for whom another refractive surgery procedure may be more appropriate.
In particular, people with thin corneas, high glasses prescriptions, and some eye conditions, may find they are unsuitable for laser eye surgery. Refractive Lens Exchange (RLE)
In a Refractive Lens Exchange (RLE) procedure, the eye’s natural lens is replaced with an artificial lens – just as it is in cataract surgery. However, in RLE surgery, the lens is exchanged purely to correct a focussing error like long or short sightedness, or astigmatism, rather than to treat a cataract.
